On 3 January, 2019, a fire broke out in one container on the deck of the vessel “Yantian Express” on her way from Asia to Halifax, Canada. Continuous efforts to extinguish the fire have made significant progress and have enabled the fire to be largely contained and brought under control.

“Yantian Express” is currently being towed at a slow speed by the vessel “Maersk Mobiliser” and continues to be about 800 nautical miles off the coast of Canada. A third ocean-going tug is on its way to “Yantian Express” and is expected to begin assisting the activities on 13 January, 2019.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. At this time, we are still unable to estimate the damage to the “Yantian Express” or its cargo. Yang Ming will provide continued updates on the situation as soon as receiving more concreate information.
